Friday Factoid: Chicago’s Law School Musical
February 25th, 2011
Every February at the University of Chicago Law School, a group of students performs an original two-act musical. The participating students write the book and songs (although the production often parodies an existing movie or musical plot, adding new lyrics to familiar tunes). The musical has been around since the 1980s, and most of the production’s alumni have gone on to great legal careers (though not a single one into theater!). Students run every aspect of the musical, not only writing the words and songs, but also making up the ten-piece pit band; doing all the tech, set design and set construction; directing the show; choreographing it and, of course, performing it.
